Accidentally stumbled upon this Cafe in Ellenville today. What a great experience. I had the best cappuccino of my life there today and will be going back ASAP. Also telling friends. The location is prime adjacent to the Shadowland and close to hiking hot spots. Lastly, the food was outstanding.

I’ve been hearing about their burgers for awhile and finally got there today. At first I was tempted to order biscuits and gravy (breakfast is available all day) but decided to get their smash burger with fries. The burger was perfectly cooked with fresh greens, red onion, pickle and American white cheese. It was so juicy that I almost asked for a 2nd napkin. The fries were super crispy, which was a nice change from most fast food fries. The service was attentive and friendly. Definitely worth a visit!

Very friendly and attentive staff. The bartender (sweet young lady) came right over to our table offered tasting samples of their huge local craft beer selection. They had multiple draft beers you won't find anywhere else. From light to very strong - mild to full flavor, they have a great selection of draft beer. However, the real reason we came in was for the Underground burger and chicken pesto sandwich. Everytime we visit the area from Maryland we have to stop in here for the best burgers and chicken sandwiches. Try this place, you won't be disappointed!

The food and coffee were good, but wish the kid size French toast had fruits on the side. It was great that their games kept the kids busy while we were waiting for our food.

Love this place!!! Local highland resident here and I love coming here and supporting local businesses. They’ve come such a long way since first established. Food and service are both excellent. Vibe is warm, welcoming, and just the right spot to bring your family or friends, or like me and need a space to get some small tasks done!
Pricing is fair for what is offered and hope more people check out this little hidden gem!

Just had breakfast at Underground this morning. They have been closed in the morning since Covid but now have new owners. The coffee was just as good as it used to be and the breakfast was much better. It’s great to have a good coffee shop and breakfast spot again in Highland. I did stop in for dinner when the new owners had just taken over but they were out of a lot of things and hadn’t gotten their liquor license yet. It looks like they are still working on getting beers in tap but they do have cans and bottle of beer and wine now. The breakfast really was very good. The best spot for breakfast in Highland now for sure. I’ll leave another review the next time we go for dinner to see if they have gotten all the wrinkles ironed out. We got the eggs Benedict with spinach and the breakfast tacos.

Underground has changed a lot since originally opening. Since reviewing a restaurant from years last is essentially useless to everyone, I'll just speak to recent experiences.

Weeks ago I visited during the lunch hour and learned that they did not have any beer available for sale. I assume this had something to do with their license, but it was definitely unusual and disappointing for pub fare. They used to have so many great options available. We decided not to stay for lunch.

This past weekend we showed up at opening for their newly offered Brunch. Now in the past I've really enjoyed their burger offerings, but brunch was new. Unfortunately, they were not ready to open at 8am, as the lone scheduled server did not show up until 20 minutes after open. Eventually she showed up and we overheard her mention to another guest that she simply "forgot" about her shift. We weren't in a rush that morning, but this should honestly never happen.

We ordered the avocado toast and chicken & waffles aling with some coffees. The seasoned potatoes were enjoyable, as were the coffee drinks, but the chicken and waffles wasn't much to speak of. The waffle was no better than one you'd make at home and the chicken was a bit too thin. I also had to ask for syrup, which I assumed is a staple condiment served alongside this entrée.

Overall, I think Underground has really fallen off recently. It's just not what it used to be and I unfortunately don't think I'll be back after many years of patronage. I wish the restaurant well, but the shortcomings are just too noticeable to ignore.

Good food. I had biscuits and gravy which was tasty but the gravy was a little watery.
