We stayed for three nights. two story hotel , no elevator, There is no breakfast. They did not clean the room daily. It appears they remodel the upper floor. Bed was good, bath/shower combo, micro and refrig and flat screen tv. All worked well. The AC worked but was very loud. Dont try to check in early. A little off the main street, but within walking distance to many food establishments. The price was one of the lowest in town. You get what you pay for in this place. Parking is cramped.

Last year I came by to bishop and stayed at motel 6 and had a few issues there so o decided this year I would try a new motel. Thunderbird prices were a lot more reasonable and although yes the rooms may need some updates they were still quite comfortable and place was very quiet. I would definitely recommend and will be staying here in the future when I come. The only thing I would say is that at 3pm they were still cleaning the rooms and I had to wait about 15 minutes, no biggie though. WiFi and Tv worked great and had no issues.

Bed was kinda hard, no down pillows, no chairs in the room.
BUT,
the room was clean and quiet, the shower was excellent, the manager was friendly, the room was newly remodeled, the price was fair and the location is central.

I would rather be trapped in my worst nightmare than be in this room for one more second. Prices were BEYOND ridiculous ($101) for what the quality was. Bathroom door didn't close at all, there were no blinds on the window, I had to make bootleg blinds from sheets, entire place smelled like pure disgust like it hadn't even cleaned in years, everything was stained and the hotel staff entered our room UNANNOUNCED BEFORE our checkout time while i was sleeping. Owner doesn't care about your safety, comfort, or condition of your room. This place needs to be reported for how out of control the quality is, I wish I saved my money and slept on the side of the road instead I would have been safer and more comforterable sleeping in a furnace (not to mention my car broke down and was in a shop nearby so I was trapped here)

Friendly staff. They were accommodating and did not try to upsell. Bed was comfortable- blankets were not the comfortless plasticky covers but rather soft and a bit unconventional. They made an effort to get us the bottom floor. Yeah- the floor was coming up in places but it wasn't dangerous. The toilets are high-- good for ADA even though it isn't advertised as such. And clientele COULD have been dangerous-- but maybe they screen better-because I didn't see sketchy long term "tenants". And it was reasonable..- they value honesty-- so they charge only $10 for pets- but if they find you had a pet and you didn't tell them.... .They might be shocked that I would come back- but we got good rest. No, we didn't try breakfast.

A Disappointing Stay: Unpleasant Odors, Filthy Room, and Overcharged.

My recent stay at the Thunderbird Motel was nothing short of a nightmare. From the moment we entered the front office, we were greeted by an overpowering smell of curry. The room itself was in a deplorable state, desperately in need of a thorough deep cleaning and proper updating. To add insult to injury, we were scammed and charged nearly double the online listed rate. If possible, I would strongly advise driving out of town rather than staying at this hotel, even if it means a longer journey.

My partner and I stay in Bishop rather often due to its proximity to the Alabama Hills, Lone Pine, the Eastern Palisades, and of course Temple Crag.

The town of Bishop alone is enough to keep you coming back. Itโ€™s quiet, but with all the services and niceties youโ€™d ever want including a world class bodybuilding gym and one of the best country fried steak breakfasts in the lower forty-eight.
The Thunderbird is exactly what it should be; the quintessential motel of the Sierras. Driving up at night, the neon sign guides you into a cozy, comfortable room replete with all one needs for a base of operations for exploring the majesty of nature in the region.
Itโ€™s easy to fall in love with the town of Bishop; itโ€™s kind residents, quaint shops, and the fabulous Thunderbird Motel. It harkens back to the early days of American culture here in the West; road trips down Route 66, All-Night Diners, and the sense of genuine adventure that is sorely missed in our modern times. Most folks envision palm trees, sandy beaches, and Hollywood when they imagine what California must be like, but itโ€™s been my experience that the real image of our great state is that of the Sierra Nevadas and the little towns peppered along their craggy slopes. Nowhere is this more true than Bishop and The Thunderbird Motel.

Long may they stand.

I give this 5 stars. Not because it's perfect, but because it is almost always very quiet, clean, and close to the main highway without all the noise and attention.
