I highly recommend Eli and Studio Sessions! I booked a private, beginning level sewing class for my team of 6 as a team-building activity and we had a great time. Most of my team was coming in with zero sewing experience, and they were surprised and proud to come out of the class with a completed project. Eli was warm and welcoming, encouraged us to have fun, and walked us through all parts of the project with patience and clarity: using a pattern to cut the fabric, winding the bobbin, threading the machine, and sewing on the machine to produce a drawstring pouch. A couple of my team members are looking forward to continuing this new hobby and I'd definitely come back for another class in future!

I'm currently in a capsule wardrobe course with Eli. She is knowledgeable, patient and inspires me to try what I wouldn't otherwise (like making my own pattern to recreate a dearly loved house jacket). A new sewing machine that sat in my closet unused for too long to admit (oh, the fear of failure) is fast becoming a favorite partner in creativity. Eli's generosity of spirit and skill as a sewing instructor are outmatched only by her modesty when praised,
'...not at all! You are too kind!' she'll say. I say, "Vive La Eli and her lovely Studio Sessions!'

I just attended the first level beginner group session. The class was structured so well! It was a great mix of instruction and hands on work. I left feeling really capable and excited to come back for the next level soon. It’s also a very pleasant space to be in, and Eli creates a comfortable community atmosphere with the participants. What a pleasant way to spend a morning, social and productive. And I 100% feel that I am now able to begin sewing projects on my own, which was not true when I walked in the door.

I did a 2 hour private with Elli and I am thrilled! She taught me how to use my brand new machine. I literally have never successfully sewed anything in my life! I left there with a very sweet drawstring bag that I have been showing off to everyone. Was literally out with my husband showing our male friends my creation. Elli is patient, kind, funny and encouraging. I am beyond thrilled to find her studio and I truly believe she has opened the door for my new hobby!!

I took the module 2 sewing class yesterday, and absolutely loved it. I’ve been learning to sew on my own at home and have always felt a little overwhelmed - not so in this environment. Eli, the owner, brings such calm confidence to her teaching and I was delighted to spend a few hours with some amazing folks learning together. Plus now I have this special tote that I made myself! Highly recommended!!

I wanted to follow through on learning to see, but had no idea how to go about it. Finally, I had some free time and took the plunge. I discovered Studio Sessions during a walk through Elmwood.
Eli greeted me and we talked about lessons. It was easy to make an appointment using her site.
I was pretty intimidated by the idea, but she was fun, welcoming and encouraging. In about ten minutes time, she had me sewing a seam and after an hour of practice, with her guidance, I hemmed a pair of jeans.

Whether you want to learn how to sew, advance your sewing skills and make more complicated projects, or are in search of a sewing community, Studio Sessions is the place for all of the above! Eli is a wonderful teacher and so patient and encouraging and she is so thoughtful about the space and community she is creating. I finally learned how to use a sewing machine and even came away with a sunglasses pouch to take home. I’ve been searching for so long for a place like this in the East Bay and am so happy that Eli opened Studio Sessions.
