Proprietor Jaki Canterbury’s SLOWFIBERis a magical experience. Inside, tucked away upstairs (look for the dress form outside the door, on the balcony), you’ll find all manner of fabrics, yarns, and notions from England; Merchant & Mills patterns; and other small, independent designers’ patterns to choose from. Throughout the year, Jaki offers wonderful workshops, a full range of textile adventures! This little shop is a long-awaited resource for local sewists and knitters. Jaki is gracious and welcoming to all who come through the door! If you love finding treasures, don’t miss SLOWFIBER when wandering through Monterey! One picture is worth a thousand words (see below!). Love the one where a small but very faithful customer is paying Jaki for her purchases.

I love love everything Slow Fiber. It’s my happy place in Monterey. This sweet little shop is amazing. I’m creating “me made” adorable clothing using upcycled materials at extremely affordable prices. Also great newsletter content and social media presence. Jaki is a gem and always helpful. Her outfits are dreamy and pattern selections are perfect for all levels. Can’t recommend a more perfect shop.

This little treasure of a shop shouldn't be a Monterey secret! It is full of finds for anyone who enjoys needlework of any kind. There are great classes, a carefully curated selection of books and so much inspiration for creativity. I got a gift certificate last year and it went a very long way!

Slow Fiber is my ‘happy place”. So many yummy fabrics and fibers, vintage notions, tools, lovely threads and inspiration everywhere! Jaki provides the encouragement and opportunity to build community with other makers, learn new techniques, and explore your creativity in a thoughtful and environmentally responsible way. I originally came in search of fun materials and unexpectedly have found my tribe of wonderful and giving creatives.

Love Slow Fiber. Every city needs this. I travel over two hours several times a year to take advantage of a class or special, to buy her wonderfully curated fabrics and books and notions, or to donate fabric from my stash. Jacqui is high energy and knows what she's doing.
