Very cute exhibits throughout the store of what can be made with specialty paper and great selection of paper too!

You can request your paper to be cut down to smaller dimensions if you are planning to travel with them - excellent customer service and would love to visit again.

I recently hired Linda Mihara, Origami Master, and owner of Paper Tree-The Origami Store in San Francisco to teach making some basic paper folding objects at a local private birthday party I hosted. We decided upfront on a theme which was creating objects to decorate the home, tree, or presents, for the upcoming holidays. Included were ornaments, mantel pieces, and Star of Davids. She came equipped with papers, instructions, and examples. She was a delight and so patient. The capabilities of the attendees were quite a range, but not one of them felt excluded from being heard or came home empty-handed. She was a delight, cheerful and welcoming. I highly recommend Linda as a teacher of the art of origami as a party, icebreaker, or team-building activity.

The light and airy space at the Paper Tree is so inspiring. Is it a store or a museum It is always nice to visit with Linda. Her love for origami is contagious.

Paper Tree is like a mini museum with a lot of origami and other nice things to behold and admire. I am not sure if I talked to the owner. She was very helpful and answered all my questions.

Hard to overstate how much I love this store. I usually feel a bit awkward if I'm just browsing and don't have a set reason for going to a store, but I was in the area and decided to go in. Right away you see some really impressive origami displays that make you want to try it—and luckily they have a setup in the back so you can try a simple model, which of course just makes you want to buy some origami paper and a book. I always come out spending more than I meant to even though I'd never really done origami prior to visiting this store. It very quickly became one of my favorite stores in SF.

They have some handmade paper—some pretty nice stuff for a more serious origami person, but also much cheaper paper for someone just getting started. They have a lot of other cute things, too. I got an origami cloth that holds its shape and will re-fold if you unfold it and toss it around (really worth trying out in store—it's the red crane across from the register). There are also some cute earrings and this fun painting thing that just uses water. My sister liked it so she could practice her brush strokes without wasting paint. They also have some nice paints, but that's not something I really dabble in.

I also really appreciate the people working in the store. The two guys who are often there are very nice, and when I've asked the women in the store questions I feel like they really know what they're talking about and they can give me suggestions. They're also quite nice, and I get the sense they've been doing origami a while.

They also offer a free class on Saturdays over zoom, and old classes are on their YouTube channel. I just really feel that this store really packs a punch when it comes to getting a complete novice started on origami, but they also offer private lessons for someone doing it a bit more seriously. I wish there was a bigger selection in 10in paper, but that's about it. I really do love this store, and I love that it's just across the street from the little grocery store. I go and pick up my paper and head across the street to get some ice cream. A perfect day in J-town.

I will also comment that while I usually walk in to browse, I made an order online and it was filled much faster than the online portal suggested (about 4 hours but it was ready within an hour). There was a mistake with my order but I reached out and it was handled very swiftly and professionally. I think that's worth pointing out because the mistake was minor, and mistakes are bound to happen, but the professionalism really shone through. It really reiterated for me how great the folks at this store are and why I love this place so much. It's just a place that wants you to love origami and art and does what it can to promote that. I strongly recommend coming here.
