When I heard the Mixed Bag was closing my heart sank. It is the place that I and many people go to for the unique gifts you cannot find anywhere else and brings joy to your heart to buy. They say the high cost of everything etc people just cannot keep up with costs perhaps a new owner can negotiate lower prices for a shop we all love to keep business going. I hope like everyone else that a miracle happens and a NEW BUYER will come through before final closing. A high hope and a prayer: A new buyer could bring back hope, joy, and a new beginning for a store well loved and cherished.

Whenever we are in Sacramento my wife and I have to stop into Mixed Bag. They have so many different items. We love the kitchen items. You get free parking, so don't let the signs scare you.

I know and love every corner of this store. I buy most of my presents for friends and family here as they have so many unique gifts and the BEST birthday cards. Wendy and Mary are the kindest and wisest women and are part of the reason I come back again and again. Christmas season is lit here with unique and rare ornaments by the hundreds.

This lil gem of a shop is near and dear to me. They have the coolest trinkets, and literally everything else you didn’t know you needed. Even if you’re not looking to buy anything it’s a cool experience to just browse

I like this place a lot. It's full of all the things you want but don't need, including great gift ideas. The prices are a little on the high side, but it's in midtown and a local business, so they charge what they need to keep the doors open. They have a lot of wonderfully kitschy things: mugs, magnets, cards and present wrapping stuff, notepads, tongue-in-cheek books and knickknacks, kitchen stuff, pride stuff, kids toys, etc, etc, etc. I took a couple pictures of adorable things I don't need to be spend money on (to share with friends who ask what I want for my birthday).

And yes, they can be touchy about people parking in their parking lot. They have a large parking lot that is never more than half filled in an area where the parking is tight and very scarce. They are next door to a large and very popular barber shop with no parking at all. In fact, none of the thriving restaurants, bars, and shops on that block or across K St have anything but street parking. If they weren't vigilant, their legit customers would never have a place to park and they couldn't make ends meet. So, yeah. Don't go in and buy $2 worth of candy and chat with the lady to try legitimize the fact that you parked there to get Mexican from across the street. The signs are very clear. Parking is only for Mixed Bag customers only.

(FYI: I have never known anyone who owns or works for this business. I just recognize and appreciate a local business that has clearly taken a lot of dedication and sacrifice to still be around for decades... especially a kooky store like this one.)

Fun, eclectic gift shop with a wide range of things to look at from kitchen items to Firefly jewelry (my favorite). Cool cards, local gifts (try the peanut brittle, amazing), and wonderful Christmas displays. Includes baby and kids sections. Really nice aspect is the staff that has been there a long time. Adds to friendly ambiance.

Every time I come inside, the layout is different, new items replace old, merchandise is moved around , I love this place. Great for gifts, unusual kitchen supplies, novelty socks, Papyrus greeting cards, toys and games for the kiddos, beautiful bags and scarves for the ladies, the list is endless. Mixed Bag fills a huge void in Midtown for high end yet reasonably priced goods. They've kept their doors open since the 80s, and that speaks for itself. Staff is extremely attentive and knowledgeable - professional and courteous. Come in and spend too much money on stuff you'll love forever.

I go in just to enjoy all the great gift ideas. Actually did some shopping this week. It is a perfect go to for gifts from a child's toys to kitchen aprons, hats, cards, pictures, Gadgets. Almost any gift.
It reminds me of the older Hallmark stores or a favorite of mine, Anderson Brother's Pharmacy in Town & Country in Carmichael. I can shop for more than I need or enjoy browsing. Both places have awesome helpful staff. Thank you !
