The people and staff of The Journey, FBC Lavonia are very warm and welcoming. After visiting other churches in the area in search of a new church home, The Journey is the place I now call home. Senior pastor, Chris Chitwood and the rest of the staff, stand firm on the core doctrines of biblical Christianity. And teach practical ways of applying those truths to our everyday life. If you're new to the area and looking for a church home, The Journey welcome you!

I was at First Baptist Church to play the piano for a funeral. The people of the church provided a wonderful meal for the family - the deceased had been an active member, even working at the church, many years ago before moving to another community. The facilities appeared to be in great shape. The piano in the sanctuary is a wonderful instrument. I've known the two previous pastors; both good men. The current pastor, Chris has been on staff for about 20 years and was called as pastor when the last one retired. He also seems to be a nice, personable fellow. If you're in the area, you might visit with them on a Sunday for worship. They have a more traditional service and a more contemporary service.

I was married in this church in 1980 when my dad was pastor. The current pastor, Dr. Larry Finger, reminds me of my dad in his caring attitude and love of his congregation and community.
