Interesting place. We’ve been a few times and have bought toys from them before.

So here’s the thing, we love supporting small business but like others have mentioned, the markup on some mass-market toys here is obscene and just bad business. I’d much rather buy something from a local biz but when the arch nemesis (Amazon) and Target have the same toys for - wait for it - 70-100% less - you’d be foolish to pay double for the same thing. Have a margin. Make a good profit. But doubling prices on mass-market toys is dumb business. Stop doing that.

If we’re talking handmade, bespoke, unique toys like Odin Parker, take my money.

Two: staff isn’t that helpful or friendly, at least the 3 times we’ve been. That’s also bad.

Three: they won’t refund you and only give you store credit. Another idiotic policy.

They have a vast collection of toys and toy themed rooms. The shop is great with an abundant selection but it’s bad business practice to gouge on certain things, customers, no matter how wealthy, aren’t dumb and you’ll lose biz that way.

We loved this cute toy store!!! They have so many unique finds here. My kids went wild and didn't know where to start looking. After about half an hour they all decided on what items they wanted. The owner was very patient and helpful and gave us the time we needed for my kids to calm down and pick their toys. Great place!

Beautiful little boutique toy shop with lots of unique brands and offerings, great for gifts and surprises. The store itself would earn a five star review, if not for one member of the staff who insisted on following me throughout the store.

A word of warning to minorities; one of the older women made it very obvious that she was keeping an eye on my actions as I shopped. Never farther than a few feet away from my friend and I, she never took her eye off me only (my friend is white), staring from around corners and idly shifting items in an attempt to appear inconspicuous. I was dressed appropriately and was polite. I can’t imagine anything would prompt this other than blatant profiling— I bought my items and left. It was embarrassing and disheartening to experience, and I won’t be back.

That being said, all other staff members were helpful and kind. I’m sure it will be a lovely experience for most Fashion Island shoppers.

The selection! Amazing! I wish I had a toy store in town like this one when I was a child.
The best customer service I’ve seen in a while. We forgot to pickup our packages by their closing time and they delivered it to us at Yard house! Beyond happy with this store and service. Thank you so much Engine Ear Toys and team!

Large selection and the manager (perhaps owner?) was extremely helpful. You can tell that they are fully knowledgeable about what they sell and seem to enjoy what they do. The customer service was fantastic. They took the time to understand what we were looking for and then gave really good recommendations based upon what we shared. We will definitely shop here again as the occasion arises.

Went to buy a couple of toys while in Newport Coast. When I went home I decided to return it after I noticed it was HALF PRICE ON AMAZON. After looking at the receipt I noticed you can’t return. I spoke to the owner and he was very nice at explaining why due to being a small business.
