Mattoon Cross County Mall and event center. They have retail stores, but also large event spaces to rent for a day with flexible setup. There is a regional business incubator called Elevate on site too

The corporate owner is Rural King with a proven record of community support

This visit, I only went into JoAnns, but other times I've gone, the store fronts all looked nice and up to date, but there really aren't as many stores as there used to be. The parking space lines were also hard to see, but, overall, I got fabric at JoAnns so I'd say it was worth it.

When I was a kid 50 years ago, this place was hopping! There were folks coming from 5 states away to shop and road trip. Tuscola has lead the way in the last 30 years of so and it a great place to shop and explore. But the city of Mattoon is investing much into infrastructure disability infrastructure, and increased accebility.

I usually stop here to check out sales at Bath and Body Works, Maurice's or Joann's. I miss the days when there was a bookstore, music shop, JCPennys, Debs and Payless. I do like coming here when there are vendor events from time to time, but other than that, it just isn't the same place it used to be.

At one time, this was considered a shopping mall. Sadly, having been reduced to just a handful of stores over the years. Seeing the closed storefronts where thriving businesses used to be is an adjustment.

Well, they're trying. It's kept clean as they can manage and there's always some kind of event going on. Needs another food location and less empty shops, but it's hardly the mall's fault that retail is dying.

It was a lot better when I was a kid. I haven't really wandered around in there for a long time. Lost a lot of businesses, but I think they are trying to breath new life back into it. I hope so. It was the go-to place for young kids, teenagers, and even grown folk. If they are able to recreate that atmosphere, I will bump up my stars.
