I'm so glad I finally stopped in to check this place out! I could have spent hours exploring both floors. The owner and her daughter were very friendly, and went out of their way to help me find what I was looking for. Floor to ceiling antiques with a wide variety of things at reasonable prices, but each room has a theme that helps it stay organized

The store is dangerously overcrowded and it’s virtually impossible to walk through without knocking into things. There are accusatory signs everywhere warning people about breaking stuff. An employee was smoking in the doorway and the building was full of the smell. We left quickly because the atmosphere was claustrophobic and the staff vibe was unwelcoming.

Don’t anybody sell gold to behind the iron gates on West Genesee? I just went there with an eight karat 14 and 18 karat ring and she offered me 250. I went over to Pond King and they gave me $800. Don’t go there she’ll rip you off and she know she ripped me off previously, I am sold to 24 karat gold bars and she ripped me off on those. I know she did. I could’ve got at least 2000 more dollars and I’ve gotten anybody if you see the review go there go to said she gave me 35 pennyweights on the 18 karat gold ring and pawn king said it wasn’t even 35 pennyweights . I don’t even want to give any stars at all, but I have to give one to post this

My partner and I stopped in because the recent reviews made this establishment stand out. As soon as we walked in it was like escaping a crawl space. Rooms packed so tight and so deep you can’t get to half of the items. It’s also one of those antique stores that has signs EVERYWHERE about theft and big purses and don’t do this and absolutely don’t do that! It was excessive, as if everyone that walks through the front door is guilty.

If the dust, crowded spaces, and accusing signs weren’t enough, right off the bat everything we were interested in did not have a price tag. The first piece of art we found was handed to the store associate and she was going to ask the owner. Great, we thought, we’ll keep shopping and check back in. After shopping a few rooms we were making our way up the stairs when we overheard the other sales associate say, “just try $120.” This piece of art was missing glass, had a damaged matting, the frame was broken, and it had no signature or date. It was not exquisite by any means, it was the kind of simple art you can find for a few bucks in a thrift store. The fact that they thought they could aim high on the price due to…what (?) is beyond us. We should have walked out based on that comment alone.

Upstairs we found a room with piles of frames and art. It was such a mess, art is shoved into dirty plastic garage bins, scratching one another and some in broken pieces. Seriously, there is loose glass tossed about from the lack of care. We flipped through every bin and found two interesting pieces of art, both heavily damaged, dirty, scratched, ripped backings, stained matting, covered in random pieces of tape and grime and dust and of course, no price tags. The highest price of art we saw in this tornado of bins was $30 so we figured what we found would be much less considering their condition.

We brought them downstairs and the sales associate had to send pictures and ask the owner. The prices that came back were out of control; $75 and $65 is what we were quoted, with zero room for negotiation. These were art pieces that needed serious restoration, that were PILED beneath discarded/damaged frames for who knows how long. It’s no wonder this place is so jammed packed, they don’t sell anything.

We’ve never walked out so fast from a store.

Behind The Iron Gates is a very nice place they have alot of unique items for everyone the lady's were very helpful I bought some coins from them my wife and I and my sister and brother in-law loved every minute lots to look at...

As an avid antique shopper, I was delighted to discover the most interesting store of all time. Behind the Iron Gates is a Victorian house packed with a wide variety of one of a kind finds. Selma & Staff have spent 19 years seeking quality merchandise from silver & crystal to jewelry & wall art, vintage quilts, dolls & clothing & much more - surprisingly at very reasonable prices. What makes it even more unique is the outstanding service. They listen to exactly what you are looking for & help you find the perfect treasure that will be loved for years to come. We will definitely be frequent visitors to this ever changing antique paradise.

I absolutely love this place! The lady's who own it are amazing and I was in a wonderland of the most beautiful antique dishes and linens!! I highly recommend just stopping by if for nothing else the experience! Truly top notch!!
